Interesting recent BPS paper which confirms our experience over the past decade anda half with many people moving up several levels in their organisation - be that a FTSE 10 company with four people promoted four levels within four years or the police service with numerous superintendents becoming chief officers and around twenty making their way to deputy or chief constables.  See the newsletters for some of our case studies

As well as the well documented performance enhancement (in a whole systems way), my own take on this is the additional requirement to have a focussed outcome on future career stages (although somewhat flexible to allow for serendipity!) and to explore the management of luck and opportunity to create the future .
